With spring in full swing (ignoring the London rain), we were invited to The Bloom Room at P.F Chang’s Asian Table to experience their tribute to Hanami, the Japanese tradition of welcoming spring and celebrating the beautiful cherry blossom. Nothing says celebration like dessert and cocktails, so we couldn’t wait to sample their lovely themed offerings.
Descending to the downstairs bar felt like a springtime in Kyoto. The banisters are lined with pretty Sakura blossoms, as are the walls, floors and most of the fixtures. They’ve gone all out in creating a floral atmosphere and paired it with some specially crafted treats. Once seated, our waiter bought us two delightful Sakura Dream cocktails. Vanilla vodka blended with grapefruit and guava juice, muddled with lemongrass and orgeat syrup. We also got to try the mocktail version Sakura dream, served in a tall glass and over ice. They were great for soothing our fiery lips ignited by the heat of the Dynamite shrimp starter.
Desserts were wonderfully blossom-tastic too. The Cherry Blossom Cheesecake was super light, creamy with hints of citrus, rose and blossom. Pink on top and served with a fruity puree, it was lovely. As was the Pink Paradise, an extra-large macaroon served with fresh raspberries and a matcha ganache. It’s served with a side of rose ice cream (pink obviously).
If you love cocktails, blossoms and the colour pink, get down to P.F Chang’s Asian Table in Leicester Square before the end of April to experience the Bloom Room pop up. A true feast for the eyes and the palette.
